Oliver James Says Nerves Are a Good Thing

NEW YORK - Oliver James says that he was nervous about making his first movie, "What a Girl Wants," but tells AP Radio that when it comes to performing, a little bit of nerves can be a good thing.

The 22-year-old actor says that one of the hardest parts of the film was having to sing a James Brown (news) song.

"It's quite hard for a young English guy to do the godfather of soul," he says. "I'd always had a fairly soulful voice, it was just a question of being able to produce it."

He also says that he was a little nervous about kissing 16-year-old Amanda Bynes (news), but ended up being impressed by her professionalism.

"She's a lady who's been working in TV since she was 9 or 10 and the experience she has gathered over that length of time was inspiring," he says. "It was a surprise to me that someone so young could know so much."
